The bonus pool
Mandatory tasks tell a kid what to do. The bonus pool does the opposite: it lays out an offer and lets the kid decide whether to take it. That is the difference between instruction and autonomy.
How the pool works
Bonus tasks do not land in a kid's dashboard directly; they go into a shared pool. Kids see what is on offer and pick a task up themselves. Only then does it appear in their list.
The flow has three states, all visible in the parent area under Tasks:
- In the pool — open, nobody has taken it.
- Grabbed — a kid has picked it up and is working on it.
- Done — checked off, coins credited.
Availability: how many copies sit in the pool
When creating a bonus task you set how many copies are available — 1 to 10. This number is independent of the number of profiles, and that is what people usually misread:
- Availability 1 means the task is gone once one kid takes it. Good for things that only exist once — "wash the car".
- Availability 3 means three kids can grab it in parallel, or one kid can do it three times. Good for repeatable work — "fold the laundry".
You can write it straight into the sentence: Wash the car bonus 10 coins 2x.
Why only a few at a time
A kid can hold at most 2 bonus tasks open at once. This applies regardless of Premium and is a deliberate decision, not a paywall.
The reason is practical: without a limit, a motivated kid grabs the entire pool on Saturday morning, finishes two and blocks the rest for their siblings. With a small limit they have to choose — and choosing is exactly what the bonus pool is for.
Recurring bonus tasks
Bonus tasks can recur just like mandatory ones. A recurring bonus task reappears in the pool on its rhythm instead of disappearing after one go.
That is the route for anything that comes up regularly but is not assigned to anyone: the pool refills itself on Monday without you having to think about it.
Due dates — usually none
Bonus tasks get no target date by default. The kid sees "as soon as possible" instead of a date, and the task never goes overdue.
That matches the nature of the thing: an optional task that can go overdue is not optional any more. If you do want a deadline — for something that only makes sense until the weekend — you can set one, and "available until" limits how long it sits in the pool at all.
Filters in the parent area
As the pool grows, the filter bar helps: tap a person to see only their tasks. Next to it you can filter by state — what is in the pool, what has been grabbed, what is waiting as a draft.
Free-tier limits
Without Premium the bonus pool holds 5 entries — one-off and recurring bonus tasks combined. What kids have already grabbed or completed does not count; the limit applies to what is currently in the pool.

Why can my kid only hold two bonus tasks at once?
So the pool stays an offer rather than a stockpile. A kid who grabs ten tasks and finishes none blocks them for their siblings and loses track themselves.
Can I reserve a bonus task for one particular kid?
Yes — under "Who is it for?" you decide which profiles even see the task. Only those can grab it.
What happens to a bonus task nobody takes?
It stays in the pool. Bonus tasks have no target date by default and never go overdue — they are an offer, not an expectation.
