Widgets for home screen and lock screen
A widget saves you from opening the app for a quick check: which tasks are still open today, who checked off, who has not. With Premium, one tap from the home screen is all it takes.
Three widgets, three points of view
There are three widget types, identical on iOS and Android:
My tasks today. For a kid profile — shows that one kid's tasks due today.
Task overview. For a parent profile — shows what is currently waiting for completion or approval, across all kids.
Family at a glance. One row per kid, with the number of open tasks and a warning icon as soon as something is overdue. The fastest way to see at breakfast where things stand.
All three come in several sizes, follow the device's appearance (light/dark), and the language set on the device.
Free tier shows, Premium acts
On the free tier, widgets are display-only: tapping opens the app, nothing more.
With Premium, they become interactive. A kid checks off their task right in the widget, a parent approves or rejects a pending task directly from the overview — without opening the app. The change appears in the widget immediately and syncs with the app in the background.
Requirement: the cloud version
Widgets only work on the cloud version — they fetch their own data from the server, even while the app is closed. The offline version, which keeps everything local to one device, has no counterpart for that, so widgets are not available there. See Setting up your devices for more on cloud and offline mode.
Setting one up
Adding a widget to the home screen works like for any other app: long-press the home screen, find PiggyTask, pick the widget type and size. The first time you add one, it asks which profile to show — with several kids on the same device, you can add a separate widget for each.
Several kids, one device
On a shared device with several kid profiles, each widget is bound to exactly one profile — a kid never sees their siblings' tasks in their own widget. In kid mode, only that one kid's widget can be tapped; the others stay view-only.
iOS and Android differences
On iOS there are widgets for the lock screen and, on newer models, StandBy as well — handy for a glance at a phone lying flat and charging. On Android, only the classic home-screen widget is available.

Do we need a cloud account for widgets?
Yes. Widgets only work on the cloud version, because they talk to the server on their own. The offline version does not have them.
Can we check off a task right in the widget?
With Premium, yes — a kid checks off their task, a parent approves or rejects a pending one, without opening the app. On the free tier the widget is display-only and cannot be tapped to act.
Are widgets available on the lock screen too?
On iOS, yes — lock-screen and StandBy widgets in addition to the home screen. Android currently only has the home-screen widget.
On a shared device, can a kid see their siblings' tasks in the widget?
No. Each widget is bound to one profile. When the device runs in kid mode, only that kid's own widget can be tapped — the others stay view-only.
